Did you know that we have an energetic body that extends six feet or more outside of your physical body? This has been referred to as an aura, biofield, energy field, life force energy, Prana, or chi. But what is it? What purpose does it serve? And what is energy therapy?
This energetic field is known by a minimum of 97 different names by a minimum of 97 different cultures (Future Science, John White) and has been a part of an ancient Indian practice for over 5,000 years. In the 3rd millennium B.C. the Chinese posited the existence of Chi, a vital energy. (Hands of Light, Barbara Ann Brennan). Your energy field is made up of subtle energy that is generated by your heart in the shape of a torus, or donut. The field grows and contracts based on the frequency of the energy, or the will of the person. Energy is the electricity of life. Energy is the difference between a corpse, and a living body. Energy is the essence of the soul. Energy is the most basic form of life. Energy is light.
The energy field has seven layers outside of the physical body which envelopes all of our emotional experiences, our thoughts and beliefs, our purpose and connection to the divine. Our embodied energetic body includes seven main concentrated energy centers in the shape of vortices which spiral out and above the body, called chakras, located in a line from your crown to your tailbone. Chakras also correspond with the closest organs and certain parts of the body referenced in reflexology. The next layer is a system of energetic pathways as referenced in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine as Meridians, and Nadis in yogic traditions. They are also commonly used in acupuncture. The network of 72,000 nadis interconnect and stimulate the seven major chakras, directing the energy flow (Foundations and Practice of Healing Touch).
The key to a healthy energetic field is a balanced flow of energy. However, there are many experiences, beliefs, or patterns that can cause the energy field to be stagnate, constricted, blocked, torn, or overactive. These imbalances in the energetic field may be the product of physical injury, false beliefs of self (low self esteem), childhood or any form of trauma (even the kind that isn’t remembered because it’s still in the subconscious), or toxic behavioral patterns to name a few.
There are many ways we can work to balance our energy field: meditation, drinking more water, eating fresh fruits and vegetables, spending time in nature, grounding/earthing, practicing mindfulness and gratitude, or practicing or receiving energy therapy.
What is energy therapy?
Energy therapy is a holistic treatment using life force energy to restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and soul. There are a variety of methods and modalities that work with life force energy with the intention of restoring well-being. Most energy modalities are administered by light touch or allowing their hands to hover over the body without touching (depending on the comfort level of the client and/or practitioner). At Agape Sacred Wellness, I utilize mostly Usui Reiki and Healing Touch modalities. These are also used with other tools such as crystals and tuning forks. Each session is different because it focuses on the needs of the client.
What is Reiki?
Reiki (ray-kee) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It was discovered in 1922 by Mikao Usui. Today it is also used in many hospitals as complementary care to help speed up recovery and reduce pain.(Reiki in Hospitals, William Lee Rand).
Reiki benefits include:
Pain relief
Relaxation
Stress relief
Emotional relief
Aids sleeping
Improved energy levels
What is Healing Touch?
Healing Touch is a relaxing, nurturing, heart-centered, biofield (energy) therapy. This modality utilizes a collection of techniques used to clear, energize, balance the energy field, supporting one’s inherent ability to heal. Healing touch is also used as complementary care in many hospitals, as it offers similar if not the same results as Reiki.
Your Session
At the beginning of the session the practitioner may ask a few questions to familiarize themselves with your needs for the session. Clients remain completely clothed during the session. The therapy usually takes place on a massage table, but can also be completed sitting up. Usually soft music is played, and the lighting is dimed to create a relaxing ambiance. During the session you may experience warmth or tingling sensation. After the session most clients report feeling extremely relaxed. It is important to drink plenty of water for the next couple of days following to assist in the detoxification process.
You can book your session here on the website, contact me by phone, or come see me at one of my upcoming events announced on my social media pages. I look forward to seeing you!
